Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya liegt etwa 3 Autostunden noerdlich von Bangkok. Die Stadt war ehemalige Hauptstadt des damaligen Siam im 14. Jahrhundert. Ein Fluss umgibt das Stadtzentrum, wo sich lauter Ruinen von alten Tempeln und den damaligen Regierungsgebaeuden befinden. Mit dem Fahrrad ueber die sogenannte Insel und mit dem Boot herum haben wir alte Tempel und unter anderem den groessten sitzenden Buddha Thailands besichtigt. Ab und zu treffen wir Elefanten an, welche ein paar Touristen durch die Gegend fuehren.

Der Markt ist ein weiteres Highlight, an welchem wir ein sehr grosses Angebot an diversen asiatischen Koestlichkeiten entdeckten. Diesmal war es aber nicht das Essen, das die Thais intressierte, sondern "Muay Thai", Thaiboxen, was sehr eifrig im Fernsehn verfolgt wurde.

Ayutthaya is located about 3 hours north of Bangkok by car. The city used to be the capital of the long forgotten Siam in the 14th century. A river sourrounds the citycentre in which many leftovers of the old temples and govermental buildings can still be found. Using bicycle and boat we explored everything on and around the so called island and gazed at the largest sitting Buddha of Thailand which was just one amongst various things. Every now and then we crossed elefants who carry tourists around the park. The market is another highlight at which we were delighted with the best what the asian kitchen could offer to us. However, the locals were much more into "Muay Thai", thai boxing, which was watched with great passion.
